Welcome to Hazard/Perry County Tourism

Welcome to the Heart of Adventure Tourism Country!

Welcome to the official website for the Perry County Department of Tourism. Our mission is to provide an online informational source for potential visitors to the area. Our vision is to be a catalyst for stirring economic growth and attracting new visitors to the “Queen City of the Mountains”. The beauty and elegance of Hazard and Perry County can easily be summed up with one simple phrase “A place to call home”. Conveniently tucked within the heart of the Appalachian coal-fields of Eastern Kentucky, this ever-growing community of Hazard and Perry County is truly a hidden scenic treasure. One could easily refer to the area as a geographical masterpiece for its abundance in plant-life, natural resources, and river systems.

Founded by Elijah Combs and his seven brothers in 1790, the county and its seat were later named for American naval hero Commodore Oliver-Hazard Perry. Commodore Perry was victorious over the British in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. Click here to learn more about the History of Hazard and Perry County.

Hazard and Perry County has gained national recognition for its rich tradition in the coal and lumber industries, dating back to the early 1800s. While the coal industry continues to provide many residents with quality jobs, the business community of Hazard and Perry County has grown in leaps and bounds. Take time to browse the site and learn more about this exciting Appalachian Community!
